**Dump Truck Driver Responsibilities:**
- Safely operate dump trucks to transport materials such as gravel, sand, or debris
- Load and unload materials at designated locations
- Inspect vehicles before and after trips to ensure safety and proper maintenance
- Follow all traffic laws and safety regulations
- Keep accurate delivery and work logs
- Communicate with dispatchers, site managers, and other workers
- Secure loads to prevent shifting or spillage
Qualifications
**South Carolina Dump Truck Driver Qualification Requirements:**
1. **Commercial Driver’s License (CDL):**
- A valid South Carolina CDL, usually a Class B (for single vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 lbs or more) or Class A (for combination vehicles), is required.
2. **Age Requirement:**
- Must be at least 18 years old to drive intrastate (within SC).
- Must be 21 years old to drive interstate (across state lines).
3. **Clean Driving Record:**
- A good driving record with minimal violations is typically required by employers.
4. **Medical Certification:**
- Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and hold a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
5. **Experience:**
- Some employers may require previous dump truck or commercial driving experience.
6. **Background Check:**
- Must pass background and drug screening checks as required by employers.
7. **Endorsements (if applicable):**
- Additional endorsements (like air brakes) may be needed depending on the type of dump truck.
8. **Knowledge of Safety Regulations:**
- Understanding of state and federal trucking laws and safety procedures.
