Job Description

Salary Range: $85K - $95K / Annual MIC, MSF, ROHVA, and SVIA are the powersports industry’s leading not-for-profit trade and education associations in the United States. MIC is the national trade association representing manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, scooters, motorcycle/ATV/ROV parts and accessories, and members of allied trades such as insurance, finance and investment firms, media companies, and consultants. MSF promotes safety through rider training and education, operator licensing tests, and public information programs. ROHVA and SVIA are national industry associations promoting safe and responsible use of ROVs and ATVs through training, public awareness campaigns, and state legislation. Accredited by the American National Standards Institute, ROHVA and SVIA develop standards for the equipment, configuration, and performance requirements of ROVs and ATVs respectively. We are looking for an experienced Government Relations Communications Writer/Media Relations Specialist based in the Washington, D.C., area open to a hybrid work environment. The Government Relations Communications Writer/Media Relations Specialist plays a pivotal role in keeping members of the powersports industry’s leading trade and education associations, the Motorcycle Industry Council, Motorcycle Safety Foundation, Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association, and Specialty Vehicle Institute of America,  informed and empowered on key legislative and regulatory developments that shape the powersports industry. This position bridges communications and government relations by transforming complex policy material into clear, accessible, and compelling content that drives understanding and action. As part of the Communications Department, you will work closely with the Government Relations Office (GRO) to deliver strategic messaging, develop integrated advocacy campaigns, and support policy engagement across multiple audiences—including legislators, media, member companies, and industry stakeholders. We’re seeking a strong communicator with demonstrated expertise in public policy, government affairs, and translating technical or legal material into impactful, audience-appropriate content. Key Responsibilities
Writing & Content Development 
– Write and edit clear, engaging content on complex policy matters, including legislative updates, regulatory briefings, action alerts, talking points, FAQs, —fact sheets, newsletters, and website copy.
– Translate technical and legal documents into accessible language suitable for diverse audiences.
– Support rapid-response communications related to policy changes, government decisions, or regulatory issues.
– Write news releases and media alerts.
– Assist with editing and proofreading of broader organizational communications. Government Relations Collaboration 
– Serve as a liaison between the Communications Department and the Government Relations Office.
– Work with Government Relations team to monitor and analyze federal and state legislative and regulatory developments affecting the powersports industry and recommend communications plan.
– Support Government Relations team in developing advocacy campaigns and calls to action that support grassroots mobilization and coordinated policy engagement.
– Work closely with policy experts, GRO staff, external partners, and policymakers to ensure accuracy and strategic alignment. Strategic Messaging,  Member Engagement, and Media Relations 
– Develop content strategies that support member engagement on issues such as emissions regulations, land access, vehicle classification, safety standards, rider education, and broader public policy trends.
– Tailor messaging for various member segments including manufacturers, distributors, dealers, training organizations, business owners, and potentially enthusiasts.
– Support preparation of content and collateral for association-led policy briefings, public meetings, and industry coalition events.
– Help with media monitoring, media engagement, and managing media requests Digital Communications & Performance Tracking 
– Work with Associations’ Writer to craft articles for the MIC RideReport, our weekly digital newsletter, and the Executive Briefs, our monthly update to members.
– Collaborate with the social media team to create advocacy-related digital content.
– Track and report engagement metrics (email performance, website analytics, campaign participation) and recommend adjustments to improve effectiveness. Qualifications 
– Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, Public Affairs, or related field.
– 3–5 years of experience in policy communications, government relations, public affairs, or advocacy writing.
– Demonstrated ability to distill complex policy topics into clear, actionable messaging.
– Strong understanding of federal and state legislative and regulatory processes.
– Ability to read and interpret legislative/regulatory proposals and collaborate with subject matter experts to produce concise, audience-specific materials.
– Experience crafting advocacy communications, action alerts, policy updates, and grassroots outreach.
– Exceptional attention to detail. Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong command of voice and tone.
– Experience with trade associations, public sector organizations, or legislative bodies strongly preferred.
– Experience with Office Products, Mailchimp, Canva preferred.
