MAIN PURPOSE

Provides environmental, regulatory, and sustainability support to the Henry, Ill and Avon Lake, OH sites to comply with environmental regulatory requirements. The incumbent advises the sites on issues of global, federal, state, and local compliance; ensures compliance with all applicable environmental regulatory requirements; and responds to inquiries from regulatory authorities.

COMPLEXITY OF THE JOB

• The incumbent is responsible for environmental, regulatory, product stewardship, and to provide clear interpretations, and ensures compliance with U.S. and global regulations, laws, and associated procedures. 
• Determines applicability of rules, permits and requirements.  
• Make sound decisions to ensure environmental and regulatory compliance. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES  

Environmental Engineer 

• Provide environmental support to Henry, Ill and Avon Lake, OH sites.  
• Monitors, interprets, and communicates regulatory issues that will impact operations and business strategies. Maintain Environmental systems, procedures and infrastructure, following Orbia Standards. 
• Internal records, procedures and housekeeping auditing to ensure compliance. 
• Assist EHSS colleagues and support activities as necessary in all EHSS areas including Emergency Response, Process Safety, and Site Safety. 
• Act as main contact for regulatory (Local, state, federal) communications,  inspections, inquiries, etc.  
• Ensures that all environmental reporting is completed timely and accurately.  
• Manages the collection of data, online/electronic databases, and files mandated for environmental regulatory reports with applicable agencies and corporate. 
• Work with the HSE Leader to implement Environmental Improvement Plans. 
• Drive and support completion of Environmental projects. 

Sustainability 

• Assist in defining site sustainability goals and track program metrics to assess program effectiveness. 
• Improve the effectiveness of the sites sustainability practices by monitoring best practices related to sustainability and working with Corporate Sustainability team for new sustainability programming and modifications to existing programs. 
• Support Corporate Sustainability objectives 
• Ensure the timely reporting of Sustainability data. 

ISO 14001 

• Responsible for maintaining ISO 14001 readiness and Interaction with ISO Certification Body (scheduling, audit response, etc.) 
• Participation in plant level internal audits and conduct internal audits 
• Monitor corrective actions at plant level; compliance with our internal procedures or need to modify existing procedures. 
• Lead the implementation of ISO 14001 at the site. 

EDUCATION  

Minimum: BS in Environmental Management, Health, Safety and the Environment (HSE) or other related science discipline.  

Desirable: VCM manufacturing/operations experience a plus. 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED 

The position requires knowledge, experience and understanding in VCM manufacturing and operations, and how to apply these to environmental and regulatory requirements to educate the team and meet compliance. Knowledge and proficiency in using computers and software including SAP and MS Office. Knowledge of workplace safety. Understanding of ISO 14001 and applicability to the operations. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED 

3 to 5 years; VCM operations.  Basic understanding of ISO 14001 with desire to gain proficiency through applicable training.
